Things to Do in Fremantle
The local attractions
Shani holds the belief that everything you need for a holiday can be found in South Fremantle – between The Painted Fish and Fremantle “proper”. In your room is a book with some of the local attractions highlighted.
The beach
South Beach is a popular local beach, with a dog beach, safe swimming areas, groins for fishing, a large lawn area with BBQs and a café. Public toilets and showers are also available.
Shopping for the essentials
There are several options for general shopping, all within walking distance of The Painted Fish including grocery stores, a fruit and vege shop, chemist, late night deli and health food store.
Cafes, pubs and restaurants
There are several great cafes and restaurants between here and Freo. Within a short stroll you can have Italian or Vietnamese food, a wood fired pizza, or an amazing organic meal at Sandcastles – our local organic restaurant. There are several great breakfast places and an authentic French pastry house for afternoon coffees!
There are two pubs on the way into town, both with bottle shops – the Davilak and the Seaview. The Davilak is definitely the “local” pub, there is a fun Irish session there on Sunday afternoon, and live music often. The Seaview has recently been refurbished and has a quite nice restaurant inside.
Shopping for the not-so-essentials
Drop into the Fremantle Chocolate Factory and you can watch the chocolates being made, check out second hand book shops, antique shops, several great gift shops and the famous Fremantle Cake of Soap.
Art Galleries
There are several local galleries on South Terrace in the strip between The Painted Fish and Fremantle. Our favourite is The Fremantle Contemporary Gallery owned by Steve and Elizabeth. Elizabeth makes fantastic glass work (check out her jewellery!) and occasionally Tim has a painting in the gallery.
Another favourite of ours is Early Works, run by Kate. She can take your child’s art work and turn into a masterpiece!
Pampering – massage, beauty therapy and yoga
All these are available in the strip before Fremantle – check out details in your room.
Please don’t hesitate to ask us if you want information. We have both lived in Fremantle for most of our lives, and most of our holidays have been in WA. We’d love to help you make the most of your time here!
